Michael Mantell

June 26, 1944 – March 11, 2020

Michael Mantell – a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, friend, and a pugnacious lawyer–died on Wednesday at the age of 75. Raised in Washington Heights, Michael applied his charisma and determination to reach professional and personal heights of his own. For more than 50 years, Michael served as a zealous advocate for the rights of the underdog. Whatever the strengths or weaknesses of a given case, he fought with passion and compassion to get results that made a difference in the lives of many.

His sense of social justice was his lodestar. Michael climbed even greater heights in his family life. He was always generous and supportive of family members, who often gathered at his home for holidays and celebrations. He was a devoted son to Dorothy and Bertram Mantell, and beloved brother to Edmund and Anna Mantell. He lovingly raised his daughters, Deborah and Laura, whom he adored and inspired to follow in his footsteps. He had boundless love for his grandsons – Declan, Matthew and Alfie – and for his many nieces and nephews. He will be missed and forever remembered.

Graveside funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, March 17 at Westchester Hills Cemetery, 400 Saw Mill River Road in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
